Shelf Candy Saturday #6

Welcome to Shelf Candy Saturday, a Saturday meme, hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews.

This is where I feature a favorite cover and its artist, which does not have to come from a new release or something that I received in my mailbox.  Any cover that I discover and love will fit the bill.

My pick this week is Ethos: Morning Star (Ethos #1) by Desiree Finkbeiner.

When a mysterious stranger interrupts Brianna's mundane routine, her eyes are opened to the dark underbelly of reality... immortal rogues, ancient conspiracies, prophetic revelations, savage tribes, mammoth dragonflies...

She's thrust into a race for her life when Kalen, a warrior from Ethos, discovers that she is harboring a secret... a secret that he'd give his life to protect.

There's just one little problem... they are tempted by a forbidden romance, which threatens to compromise a divinely appointed mission. They are faced with a choice... love eternal, or the end of the world...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR / DESIGNER

As you can see from the below small interview, the designer and author of this novel is Desiree Finkbeiner.

1.  What do YOU think about the cover?

I like it. LOL, of course I am bias, I designed it. Though I think, as with most artists, I can't help but believe it could have been better. But I have to stop myself from constantly trying to revise til it's perfect. I just have to stop at some point, and accept that I have to call it 'finished' at some point.

2.  The cover is different.  What information are you trying to say to the readers, whose first impression is this cover?

Firstly, I wanted to create something that stood apart from other covers in this genre. Sometimes, breaking the mold is risky, but I think I pulled it off this time. A lot of people are drawn to dragonflies, so I thought it might catch the attention of a fairly wide market. Dragonflies are iconic and beautiful, so I wanted the cover to communicate that there was a delicate beauty to my story.

3.  Who is your designer?  Can you share some details about him?

Moi! I have a degree in art, so why not use it? I have been a professional artists for years, even before I became an author. My work is collected worldwide and has appeared on many licensed products.

4.  How do YOU feel about this cover being released?

Pretty satisfied. As mentioned above, it really stands out among other covers in the genre. Most covers seem to focus on the heroine or hero, but this one does not. However, the dragonflies are an important part of the story nonetheless.

5.  Did you think of any other covers to this title?

I had tossed around several ideas, but my mind kept coming back to this. The entire idea for the book began with a 'vision' of a bright purple dragonfly and I built the story around it, so it seemed only natural to stick with it.

6.  What are your other cover works, that you like to share with us?

I design most of the covers for a small press locally and also some for other authors. These are few of my most recent designs.

  3. Oh, this is such a GORGEOUS cover!! Well, I love any cover with blue in it! Lol. But seriously, this is really EXQUISITE. Dragonflies are, indeed, iconic. I love the border design, with all that elaborate scrollwork that's also incorporated into the title. It has a strong Celtic influence, and I LOVE Celtic art!!

I also greatly enjoyed the interview! Very informative!
